한국의 고유 경전에는 어떤 것이 있나?

What kind of ancient scriptures of Korea have?

신교에는 3대 경전이 있는데 「천부경天符經」과 「삼일신고三一神誥」와 「참전계경參佺戒經」이다. 「천부경」은 한민족의 우주론이라 할 수 있고, 「삼일신고」는 신교의 세계관과 신관, 상제관, 인간관, 수행관의 정수를 담은 글이다. 「참전계경」은 사람이 하늘과 하나 되어 완전한 인간으로 살기 위해 연마해야 할 생활 실천의 계율을 기록한 것이다. 이 세 경전에는 9천년을 이어온 동방의 영성문화가 담겨 있다.

In the Singyo, there are three scriptures: the Cheonbugyeong, the Samilsingo, and the Chamjeongyegyeong. The Cheonbugyeong is the cosmology of the Korean people. The Samilsingo contains the teachings of the spiritual realm, the spirits, Sangjenim, humanity and the essence of meditation. The Chamjeongyegyeong records what people must do to become a complete human being, such as the rules which need to be applied to our daily life to cultivate ourselves. The continuing, 9,000 year Eastern Spiritual culture is inscribed in these three scriptures.

특히 「천부경」은 환국시대부터 구전되어 온 인류사 최초 경전으로 인류 최초 종교인 신교와 원형사상을 이해할 수 있다. 「천부경」에서 ‘천부’는 ‘하늘의 섭리를 나타낸 부호’라는 뜻이다. 말 그대로 「천부경」은 하늘의 이치와 법칙을 인간 세상에 드러내고 하늘의 꿈을 전하는 경전이다

The Cheonbugyeong, in particular, is a teaching that has been orally passed down since the time of Hwangguk, and is the first revelation of humanity’s history which allows us to understand Singyo and primordial ideologies. The Cheonbu from Cheonbugyeong represents the principle of heaven. The Cheonbugyeong is the scripture that reveals to the human realm the law and the principles of the heavens and the dream of the universe.

「천부경」은 우주만물의 근원과 창조의 원리를 1에서 10까지 수數로써 밝히고 있다. 그 핵심에는 우주 만유가 전적으로 하나[一]에서 나와서 벌어졌다가 다시 하나로 돌아간다는 원시반본原始返本의 메시지가 담겨 있다. ‘일시무시일一始無始一’로 시작해 ‘일종무종일一終無終一’로 끝나는 81글자로 된 짧은 글지만 경학經學(경학 연구)의 역사상 네 가지 특징이 있다

The Cheonbugyeong reveals the source of all things in the universe and the principle of creation using the numbers from 1 through 10. In its core, there is a message that all things come from one, and then spread out, only to return back to one: this is the message of seeking out the beginning and returning to the origin. It begins with Il-si-mu-si-il and ends with Il-jongmu-jong-il. It contains only 81 characters, but 4 characteristics were found in the history of studying the scripture.

첫째, 인류 시원국가인 환국에서 선언되었기 때문에 인류 최초의 경전이다.

둘째, 하늘의 신권神權을드러내는 권위의 상징체계로 상제님께서 하늘의 이치와 섭리를 인류에게 선포한 계시록이다. 

셋째, 우주 변화의 신비를 수數로써 선언하고 수로써 깨닫게 하는, 무궁한 상징성을 지니고 있다. 

넷째, 인류 역사상 수많은 우주론들 가운데 가장 보편적인 우주론이라 할 수 있다.

First of all, the message has been proclaimed since the era of the progenitor country of humanity, Hwanguk, so it is the very first scripture of humanity. Second, as Sangjenim’s declaration on the principle of the heavens to humanity, it is a symbol of authority that reveals spiritual authority. 

Third, it uses numbers to reveal the mysteries of cosmic change and understands it through numbers, so the writings contain infinite symbols. 

Lastly, of all the cosmology out there, this is possibly the most universal cosmology in the history of mankind.

「삼일신고」는 신교의 세계관, 상제관, 인간관, 수행관의 정수를 모아 기록한 모두 366자로 이루어진 경전이다. 환웅천황께서 선대 환국으로부터 전수받은 「천부경」의 내용을 바탕으로 백성들의 교화를 위해 지은 것이다. 그 핵심은 인간과 만물은 삼신 상제님의 조화로 생겨났으며, 인간은 삼신의 우주 광명한 본성에 통하므로 삼신의 공덕을 완수하고 삼계 우주의 꿈과 역사의 이상을 실현하는 태일 인간으로 거듭나야 한다는 것이 핵심 내용이다. 한마디로 어떻게 참된 나(眞我)를 실현하는가, 그 길을 가르쳐 주고 있다. 이처럼 6천 년 전 상고시대에 한민족은 이미 우주와 신과 인간에 대한 지극한 깨달음이 있었음을 알 수 있다.

The Samilsingo is made up of 366 characters, all together containing the essence of the world view, the view on Sangjenim, humanity, and meditation from the perspective of Singyo. The heavenly emperor Hwanung organized these teachings for the edification of the people according to the contents of the Cheonbugyeong, which he received from Hwanguk. This core message is that humanity and all things came to being through the power of the creation-transformation of Samsin Sangjenim. And since human beings can penetrate the cosmic resplendent nature of Samsin, they must complete the virtue of Samsin and be reborn as humans that can accomplish the dreams and history of the three realms of the universe. In one word, it explains the way to realize our true selves. By looking at this, we can understand that Korean people in ancient days, from 6,000 years ago, already had a very profound knowledge of the universe, God, and humanity.

『참전계경』은 고구려 제9대 고국천왕 때 명재상 을파소가 백운산에서 기도하며 하늘로부터 강령을 받아 기록했다는 경전이다. ‘참전’은 ‘사람으로서 천지와 온전하게 하나 됨을 꾀한다’는 뜻이다. 따라서 ‘참전계’는 사람이 하늘과 하나 되어 완전한 인간이 되기 위해 지키고 연마해야 할 계율이다. 

The Chamjeongyegyeong is a scripture that Eulpaso, a great prime minister during the time of the ninth heavenly emperor of the Goguryeo Empire, received and recorded after his prayer to the heavens. Chamjeon means “seeking to become completely one with heaven and earth.” Therefore the chamjeongye is the set of rules that human beings must abide by and practice if they want to become complete human beings, one with the heavens. 

『참전계경』은 8강령 366절목로 이루어져 있는데 366절목이란 인간이 세상을 살면서 행하거나 겪는 모든 일을 삼백 예순 여섯 가지로 분류하여 그 처신을 알려 주는 것이다. 그 366사의 첫째가 바로 경신敬神, 즉 삼신상제님께 지극한 마음을 다하는 우주 일심사상이다

The Chamjeongyegyeong is composed of chapters and deals with 366 themes. The 366 themes talk about all the things you do and experience living in the world as a human being and how to behave accordingly. The first of these 366 themes is “humbly worshipping God,” in other words, completely devoting your heart to Samsin Sangjenim which is the ideology of the cosmic one mind.

지금까지 살펴보았지만 한민족은 인류 문화의 원형이자 모체 종교를 가진 민족이면서 그 종교를 바탕으로 인류 시원문명을 열었다. 일찍이 삼신상제님의 가르침으로 세상을 다스리고 대대로 하늘에 감사하는 천제를 지내 천자의 위엄을 보였던 민족이다. 그러한 상제신앙과 상제문화는 고려시대까지 이어오다가 유교문화에 빠진 조선에 와서 쇠락하고 잊히게 되었다.

As we have read until now, Korean people possess the original form of human culture and the mother religion and began the primordial civilization of humanity through such faith. We are the people that ruled the world according to Samsin Sangjenim’s teachings, offered heavenly rituals year after year durings generations to express gratitude to the heavens and showed dignity as the nation of the heavenly son. The tradition of faith in Sangjenim and the culture of Sangjenim have been passed down until the Goryeo dynasty. It has been forgotten since the Joseon Dynasty where it was replaced by Confucianism.

그러다 19세기 중엽 수운 최제우崔濟愚(1824~1864)가 상제님의 천명을 받고 시천주侍天主 신앙을 만천하에 외친 것이 동학東學이다. 동학의 ‘동東’은 조선을 뜻하고, ‘학學’은 단순히 세상 학문을 배운다는 뜻이 아니라 ‘도道’와 ‘교敎’를 배우고 실천한다는 뜻이다. 삼신상제님께서 열어 주신 동방의 무극대도, 모든 진리가 통합되어 열매 맺는 그 천도를 배우고 닦는다는 뜻으로 동학이라 한 것이다. 동학의 대표 경전으로는 『동경대전東經大全』, 『용담유사龍潭遺詞』가 있다.

It went on like this until the mid 19th century when Choe Je-u (honorific name Su-un) received a heavenly mandate from Sangjenim and called for the practice of serving the lord of heaven. This is Donghak, the Eastern Learning. The East means Joseon (Korea). Learning is not just limited to the academic system of the world but it also the dao and gyo, learning and taking action. This refers to the supreme dao of Mugeuk from the East that Sangjenim had revealed. They called it Eastern Learning to learn and practice the way of heaven which unites all the teachings and brings them in to 

fruition. The famous scriptures of Donghak are the Donggyeongdaejeon and the Yongdamyusa.

동학은 단순히 농민혁명을 일으켰던 신앙조직이 아니다. 인류의 시원 종교인 신교를 되살려야 한다는 출발점이었다. 그러나 동학혁명은 일본 제국주의의 총칼

에 무참히 좌절됐다. 또 동학의 가르침도 상제님 소식을 전하라는 본래 사명에서 3세 손병희孫秉熙(1861~1922) 교주를 통해 ‘인내천’ 곧 사람이 하늘이다라는 쪽으로 왜곡돼 원래 시천주 정신을 잃어버렸다

Donghak is not just a simple group of faiths that started a peasant revolution. It was the starting point of the movement to bring back the original religion of humanity, Singyo. But the Donghak revolution was brutally stopped by the swords and guns of Japanese Imperialism. The original teachings of Donghak were then changed from spreading the message of Sangjenim by their third leader Son Byeonghui (1861-1922) to Innaecheon, meaning “human beings are the heavens,” distorting and forgetting the original mindset of serving the heavenly lord. 

또 동학이 이루지 못한 신교의 부활과 인류 구원의 이상을 실현할 ‘참동학’으로 탄생한 증산도가 있다. 증산도는 기존 종교 문화의 범주를 넘어서서 인류문화를 총체적으로 개벽하는 새로운 생활문화를 여는 대도大道이다. 증산도 경전인 『도전道典』에는 신과 인간의 관계, 인간의 가치, 앞으로 닥칠 천지와 인류 역사의 변혁 등을 자세히 전하고 있다. 

Then there is Jeung San Do, the True Donghak (Eastern Learning), that works as the rebirth of Singyo and brings realization to the ideals of human salvation, which Donghak was not able to achieve. Jeung San Do goes beyond the category of the previous religious cultures. It is the Great Dao that will completely revolutionize the human culture to begin a new lifestyle of humanity. Jeung San Do’s holy scripture, the Dojeon, conveys the relationship between spiritual beings and human beings, the value of humanity, and the great change that heaven, earth and human history will be facing.
